Lo so, un cronista non deve mai aggiungere commenti ai fatti, ma io, se qui parlando di un evento culturale, mi limitassi a dichiarare: “Grosso successo di critica e di pubblico nella “giornata mondiale del libro e del diritto d’autore in Filanda”, avrei l’impressione di scrivere in bianco e nero, quando esistono tanti colori per descrivere meglio. E’ vero, lo scorso 23 Aprile, l’"Omaggio a Salvatore Quasimodo” elargito proprio in occasione della giornata mondiale del libro perdippiù nella grande sala della Antica Filanda è stato un successo. E’ stata una manifestazione culturale, (organizzata dalle biblioteche del comprensorio jonico), che avuto fra i suoi relatori personaggi importanti: la dott.ssa Simona Inserra, presidente Associazione Biblioteche della Regione Siciliana, la dott.ssa Annamaria Sgrò, della Soprintendenza di Messina, il Prof. Giuseppe Cavarra, noto studioso e scrittore, la dott.ssa Carmela De Filicaia responsabile servizi culturali al comune di Nizza di Sicilia e, relatore da non dimenticare, l’assessore provinciale Mario D’Agostino.
Introdotti i lavori, la prof.ssa Rosa Nicita, (assessore alla cultura al comune di Roccalumera), ha dato spazio al saluto che il sindaco avv. Gianni Miasi ha rivolto al pubblico in sala. Davanti a questo pubblico, proprio in prima fila, onoravano la manifestazione i sindaci di vari paesi jonici, quali, Sant’Alessio Siculo, Savoca, Santa Teresa di Riva, Furci Siculo, Pagliata, Nizza di Sicilia e… mi scuserà chi ho di loro dimenticato. E’ stato un vero un piacere inoltre, asservare la presenza in sala di tutta la maggioranza e minoranza amministrativa roccalumerese insieme. Come unite da un unico ideale, la Cultura.
Gradevole ed interessante è stato il video su Salvatore Quasimodo proposto per l’occasione, unendo sapientemente (opera di Massimiliano Barbera), spezzoni di materiale storico RAI. Ma, voglio anche trascrivere alcuni brevi ma intensi passaggi (relativi agli interventi dei relatori) che mi hanno colpito.
Il primo commento, di tipo pratico, è stato espresso dalla De Filicaia, la quale con molta schiettezza, ha fotografato la situazione del momento relativa alle biblioteche joniche. Ha affermato: “Se in uno dei nostri comuni vengono prestati solo 1000 libri l’anno, e sono veramente pochi, perché essi non corrispondono a mille utenti, ma a circa 250 che vengono in biblioteca in media quattro volte l’anno, la colpa è anche delle amministrazioni”. Ha aggiunto: “I bibliotecari sono dormienti, bisognerebbe esortare le amministrazioni a scegliere bene le persone che dovranno ricoprire quei ruoli, e se necessario formare i bibliotecari con dei corsi di formazione. Oggi invece avviene che, impiegati comunali vengano trasferiti a ricoprire un ruolo diverso da quello per il quale erano preparati”. E per finire ha detto: “Io credo che la biblioteca sia l’ultimo pensiero degli amministratori”. Gli amministratori presenti, avranno ben afferrato il messaggio.
Il secondo intervento, (questa volta puramente poetico), è venuto proprio dal Prof. Cavarra. Lo scrittore e storico liminese, raccontando Quasimodo poeta e uomo, ha osservato: “Cosa c’è a Roccalumera a testimonianza di Salvatore Quasimodo? Poco! A Messina c’è qualcosa, a Modica (paese natale del poeta ndr), nulla! Per trovare testimonianze di Quasimodo, bisogna andare a Pavia!” Poi ha aggiunto: "Con Quasimodo, subentra l’endecasillabo. Con Quasimodo, la poesia dell’Io si apre agli altri. Qual’è il compito della poesia? La poesia, ha una missione, rifare l’uomo dopo che la storia e l’uomo stesso lo hanno distrutto”.
A completare la manifestazione, è seguito un breve concerto, nel quale, in versi ed in canto, sono state riproposte alcune poesie del Premio Nobel Salvatore Quasimodo.

ROCCALUMERA: PAYING HOMAGE TO QUASIMODO AT THE OLD SILK MILL
I know that a reporter must never add comments to facts, but peaking about a cultural event, I cannot limit myself to the bare facts declaring: “The World Book and Right of the Author held at the Old Silk Mill was a great success”, I would be writing black and white when there are many colors to describe it better. On the 23rd April, the day dedicated to World books, which took place in the great hall of the Old Silk Mill, I had elaborated on “The homage to Salvatore Quasimodo” and the fact that it had been a great success. It was a cultural event (organized by the libraries of the Ionic Territory) who amongst the prominent speakers were: dott.ssa Annamaria Sgro’, from the superintendence of Messina, Prof. Giuseppe Cavarra, well-known scholar and writer, Dott.ssa Carmela De Filicaia responsible for cultural services for the municipality of Nizza di Sicilia, and a speaker not to be forgotten, the council Clerk of the province Mario D’Agostino.
Following the introductions, Prof.ssa Rosa Nicita, (Council Clerk for the Municipality of Roccalumera) gave precedence to the Mayor of Roccalumera, Gianni Massi, who greeted the public and the intervening Mayors from the various villages of the Ionic Coast, sitting in the front row of the auditorium. These were from Sant’Alessio Siculo, Savoca, Santa Teresa di Riva, Furci Siculo, Pagliara, Nizza di Sicilia and.. . I beg to be forgiven if I have left anyone out of this list. It was a great pleasure to observe that the majority and minority of Roccalumera’s councilors were present, united by the one ideal: “Culture”.
The video on Salvatore Quasimodo was pleasant and interesting. This was cleverly put together by (Massimiliano Barbera) adding peaces of taped material from historical RAI. I want to also relate some of the interesting but intense passages quoted by the speakers which I found most relevent.
The first practical comment was expressed by dott.ssa De Filicaia, who with great frankness pointed out the present situation regarding the Ionic Libraries. She said: “If in one of our municipalities 1 000 books are taken out each year, it does not mean that one thousand people are borrowing books but about 250 making visits the library around four times per year. This is very minimal and the fault lies mostly with the administration”. She added: “The librarians that have this role are sleepy lot, therefore we should urge the administrations to choose the people that fill this role well. If necessary train the librarians by having specific courses. Today, they are using municipal workers at random who are transferred ad hoc to fill these jobs which are different from those that they have been trained to do”.
She finally said” “I believe that The Library is the last thought on the minds of the administrators”. Hopefully the administrators present caught the message.
The second speech (this time purely poetic) was given by Prof. Vacarra. His observations on the historical poet and writer from Roccalumera Quasimodo where thus: “What is there in Roccalumera to give testimony to the existence of Salvatore Quasimodo? Very little! In Messina, in Modica (village that gave birth to the poet) Nothing! To find testimonials of Quasimodo one has the go to Pavia!” He then added: “Quasimodo introduced the hendecasyllable. With Quasimodo, the poetry of the “I” opens up to others. What is the object of a poem? A poem has a mission, to remake the man after history and man himself have caused his destruction”.
Following this intervention there was a short concert where verses and songs were utilized from some of the poems of The Nobel Prize winners Salvatore Quasimodo.
